Fire Destroys Calgary Duplex Last Night

November 4, 2012

The importance of construction protocols, insurances, etc may be highlighted in this blaze in Calgary, Alberta.

Last evening around 10:30 pm a fire in Calgary destroyed a duplex and damaged others nearby. The duplex was under construction and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Unconfirmed sources tell our contributors the new home was under construction and that the roofers were present on site earlier in the day, however, the fire started later that evening. Hopefully if it was a roof torching (open flame) environment the roofing contractor(s) and/or general contractor(s) have proper open flame insurance in place and the workers followed strict protocols required on open flame work sites (permits, safety documentation, fire watch, insurance, etc). Either way it is a strong reminder to us and customers that hire roofers to be sure all documentation is in place when starting work on any job site. See GRS roofing accreditation for list of considerations when hiring roofing contractors.

The stories available online in the early stages of investigation of this fire are available below.
