RUMOR has it......

Latest Flash - From Ohio, June 10, 2008

Heard a rumor today that Tremco and Garland in Ohio are taking a different tactic re: cost comparisons of materials goods....

This time they are apparently dropping the prices of their material goods so as to compare better in "cost comparisons" with other products, but telling their contractors to add in another $200,000 in the overall contract for the manufacturer to act as roof consultant, architect and field inspector.

Look at it this way: If an 800 "square" roof with competitive products goes out for say $250 a "square" for normal materials and labor costs, the roof would be $200,000. (Note: A "square" is 100 square feet)

But now, these manufacturers want another $200,000 added into the cost for their "consulting" fees?

If the manufacturers in Ohio were not allowed to practice architecture and engineering without a license, and not allowed to be involved in such conflicts of interest, what would the costs of hiring an independent architect or engineer and an independent Registered Roof Observer be?

The design would cost roughly 4% of construction cost ($8,000) and the Field Inspector, the Registered Roof Observer, about half that or so, depending upon the complexities involved.

So how does a $12,000 fee for bonafide, independent and state-licensed designers - architects and engineers - and field observer consultants get inflated to $200,000 for the manufacturers to do the same?

Why? Who's getting it? And for what?

And I hear the contractors are disgruntled - THEIR profits are now taken, too!

Flash from New Jersey:

Heard a rumor today that W. P. Hickman, the Ohio Roofing Manufacturer - is running out of money?!?!

Is this true????????

If the rumor is correct, what happens with the W. P. Hickman guarantees???

AND:
Apparently, the Edison New Jersey School District, subject of the famous NJ State Commission of Investigation Report that came out in 2000, is back at it again!

They are AGAIN reroofing the same school, J. P. Stevens High School, the subject of investigation in that 2000 report, and again with an architect named in the SCI report, Rienzi.

I find it very interesting, given the fact that the high school had a major reroofing project 10 years ago - with W. P. Hickman products.

Shows that apparently corruption has gone unchecked in New Jersey in the roofing scam of schools and public work!

Here's a list of known Rienzi work since the SCI Report was distributed in 2000 - for this year alone:
